Shallow Bay Marker Buoy

Pacific NW Boater presents “Potential Navigation Hazards”. The entrance to Shallow Bay on Sucia Island is VERY narrow, and clearly marked with a red and green buoy. HOWEVER, the green buoy can sometimes “twist” itself under the surface. Steve Sabine, Washington State Park Ranger and manager of Sucia Island State Park, says this happens occasionally. But by the time it’s reported, and they arrive to check it out, the buoy has “un-twisted” itself and has popped back up in the normal floating position. Be aware, though, as should this be the case upon your arrival make sure to hug the red buoy (red, right, returning) as you come in!
