Hey guys, welcome back to KnifeHog.com. Addison here and today I’ll be reviewing the Ontario Mark 3 Navy knife model 6141.
Designed for the US Navy, the Ontario Knife Company definitely struck gold with this standard issue dive knife. With an overall length of 10 ¾” and a blade measuring 6 ½”, the this is one heavy duty fixed blade knife. The Mark 3’s blade is constructed of a tough 440A stainless steel material and features a serrated or “sawback” spine with a clip point tip. 440A is a perfect steel type for this knife due to its high corrosion resistant properties. This means that the Mark 3 will stand up to all of the bacteria and salt content that it will come into contact with underwater and virtually never rust! The blade of this knife also features a plain, flat blade grind. The handle of this knife is composed of a paneled FRN material with tough checkering that provides your hand with a comfortable and firm grip. A polymer sheath equipped with a brass belt hanger and loop also comes included with this knife.
Overall, the Mark 3 is the perfect dive knife. Its large size, tough as nails blade steel, textured handle material and sheath make this knife ideal for use while deep sea diving or just performing general cutting tasks in or around water. I really admire the fact that the Ontario Knife Company decided to go with a high quality, corrosion resistant blade steel that does not break the bank in an effort to keep the total cost of the knife low. Honestly, the only bad thing I have to say about this knife is the edge. The blade of this knife does not come very sharp right out of the box and is virtually impossible to keep sharp. But, as I mentioned before, due to the overall heft of this knife, the blade doesn’t need to be razor sharp at all times.
We here at KnifeHog give this knife 4 out of 5 stars.
